"the environments look and feel absolutely insane. This is hands down the best looking jam game I have ever seen."

"I loved the 3D pixel art style, I'm a huge fan! The atmosphere was so immersive and fits the theme perfectly."

Doors Ranked in the top 200 overall for the Brackeys 2026.1 game jam, scoring an impressive 50th place in theme and 120th in visuals out of nearly 2000 submissions.

Overview

Doors is a game jam project built in one week. The brief was simple, "Strange Places". The result was six entirely distinct 3D environments, each with its own visual approach. Doors acts as my first breach into the puzzle genre, asking players to navigate these environments and find their way out.

The Scenes

A pixelated space populated by shooting stars, wearing its Suzume references on its arm. A dark void filled with floating television screens playing static, their glow the only light source. A warm organic library with curved architecture and shelves packed with books. A nightclub with silhouetted figures and a disco ball.

Every scene required its own complete lighting setup, atmosphere, and mood.

Technical Approach

A global distance-based pixellation shader applied as a post-processing effect ties all six environments together visually despite their radical differences. The pixellation reads as a deliberate stylistic choice rather than a technical limitation - reinforcing the dreamlike unreality of moving between such different worlds.

What This Shows

Six production-quality environments in seven days. The ability to rapidly iterate on completely different visual directions without losing quality is the core skill this project demonstrates. In a production context, that translates directly to fast turnaround on prototypes, rapid visual iteration, and the ability to execute unfamiliar environments without being paralysed by uncertainty.
